How to Create a Sports Bedroom Using Team Jerseys

 By Sherrie Le Masurier

If you have a favorite sports team and are looking for a fun sports bedroom theme for your kid’s room then I’ve got a great sports bedroom idea – team jerseys.
Team jerseys are a great way to create a personalized sports bedroom theme and cheer on your favorite team or relive the fun of favorite team sport.
Creating a sports bedroom is a great way to use up all your child’s team jerseys at the end of the season. Each year you can add other element to your child’s sport bedroom theme all the while creating a room full of memories for next to nothing.
Sports bedroom decor ideas using team jerseys include making a cool window valance and throw pillows. Add in some personal photos, a few sports themed decor items like a lamp or decorative drawer pulls and maybe some locker style furniture and you’ve got a personalized sports bedroom for your young sports fan.

Sports Valance
To make a decorative sports valance to complement your kid’s window you’ll first need a basic shade in a solid color. You’ll then need either a curtain rod or length of narrow PVC pipe to thread through the arms of the jerseys you’ll be using as your valance. Install the appropriate hardware and then start threading your rod through the jerseys by running it from the end of one sleeve through the body of each jersey and out through the end of the other sleeve. Safety pins or thick rubber bands wrapped around the rod itself will help keep the jerseys from bunching up or sliding on the rod.

Sports Wall of Fame
Create a personalized wall of fame by taking photos and framing a variety of sports action shots or portraits of your child wearing his or her team jersey.
Another idea would be to hang a variety of color copied tournament photos of your child and her teammates playing and hang them clothesline style along one wall. Use heavy gauge string or wire and attach to both corners of your child’s wall using hooks. You can attach the photocopies directly with clothes pegs, have the photos laminated or glue them on plastic corrugated boards which have been cut to size. Punch a hole in the upper right hand corner any photos that have laminated or glued on boards. Attach with shower curtain rings.

Sports Pillows
To make a sports pillow all you need is a youth sized team jersey and a small pillow. Put the jersey over the pillow. Tuck the sleeves inside the jersey and then tuck the hems up into the shirt. Hand stitch in place.
Any team jerseys that are still ‘active’ can be displayed on your child’s walls in between practices and games. Just remember to wash them from time to time so your child’s sports bedroom doesn’t start smelling like a locker room.
